The focus of my painting is to bring together disparate elements into a balanced composition through a series of arbitrary and deliberate decisions.
Michael Crichton’s science fiction novels, the intuitive rules of Feng Shui, microscopic cellular imagery, and the pathology of stockpiling inform the copious swarming of images that organize my paintings.
By layering repetitive dots and patterns, I build atmospheric microcosms that swirl through deep and shallow space. Within the framework of the paper, I vary my compositions and marks to create opaque, translucent and textured factions.
The negative, or white, space left in my work contributes to the weightlessness of the imagery, and unifies variations of color. The obsessive accumulation of cellular marks in my paintings complicates the composition and visually exposes aspects of hoarding. Time passing slowly is felt through repetitive marks, layering, and my decorative, anti-gravity compositions.
